What to know before you go
- Han Market is the beating heart of everyday life in Da Nang. The name 'Han' (Hàn) refers to the Han River that runs alongside it, one of the defining features of Da Nang's cityscape. The market has been operating in various forms since the early 1900s and was officially organized into its current structure in the 1940s.
- The ground floor is dedicated to fresh produce, seafood, and street food — an absolute must for food lovers. Look out for mi Quang (turmeric noodles with pork and herbs), banh trang cuon thit heo (rice paper rolls with pork), and bun cha ca (fish cake noodle soup), all quintessential Da Nang dishes. Vendors are generally honest about prices with visitors.
- The upper floors are a shopper's paradise for Vietnamese textiles, silk ao dai fabric, hand-embroidered items, lacquerware, mother-of-pearl jewelry, and locally made souvenirs. Prices start low but are negotiable — a bit of friendly bargaining is expected and enjoyed.
