What to know before you go
- Central Market, known locally as Phsar Thmei, is a prominent landmark in the heart of Phnom Penh. Designed by French architects and opened in 1937, its unique Art Deco building features a towering 26-meter-high central dome with four sprawling benched wings that stretch out into massive market corridors.
- The market operates as a giant trading hub where hundreds of stalls are packed both inside and around the exterior. The bright central area under the dome specializes in gold, silver, vintage coins, and watches, while the four surrounding wings and outdoor alleys are filled with clothing, local silks, electronic goods, and a lively wet market section offering fresh Cambodian street food.
