Origin & history
Buckwheat has been cultivated on Ha Giang's rocky karst plateau for centuries by the H'Mong people, who use it as a staple grain. The buckwheat flower festival and the associated cakes have become a symbol of Ha Giang's cultural identity, celebrated each October-November when the plateau turns purple.
